Good News For Fliers—Aeroclinics and Luxury Parking

AEROCLINIC

I can’t think of a worse situation than having to fly with an earache, a stomachache… or worse, getting sick on your flight. Luckily, for fliers arriving into or departing from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport help is right around the corner (and up an escalator and down a concourse or two).

The airport just unveiled a new walk-in medical clinic located in the pre-security area above the main terminal. According to airport officials, the center provides treatment for illnesses such as flu, sinus infections, insect bites, burns and skin conditions. In addition, the 4,400-square-foot clinic can also “fill some prescriptions and perform physical exams and drug testing and offer preventive care services, such as monitoring blood pressure, blood sugar for diabetes patients and cholesterol levels.”

The one thing it won’t do is to hook you up with an actual doctor. Rather, the clinic is staffed with very capable nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Of course, seeking medical attention at an airport does come at a price—average bills run from $75 to $85 for treating minor illness. The clinic does accept insurance coverage from Aetna. Plans for a similar clinic are currently underway at Philadelphia International Airport.

LUXURY PARKING

If you have enough money for a second home then you likely have enough dough to spare for a high-priced indoor parking space at or near the airports you fly in and out of to get to your other home.

That said here’s some good news for you lucky ducks that own property in Utah. A company that builds luxury parking complexes has just broken ground on a 325-unit parking structure near Salt Lake City International Airport. The company says it chose the spot because of the high number of travelers who have second homes in the nearby mountains.

If you are interested in purchasing a spot you may be interested in knowing that each unit is climate-controlled and enclosed. Prices for the luxury digs range from $39,000 for a single-car garage to $109,900 for an 18-by-50-foot space that can hold several cars. You will also have to pay $40 a month for maintenance.

The hefty price tag gets you a few extra services, including shuttle service to and from the airport and access to a clubhouse with beverages and updated flight schedules.

Currently, the luxury garages are open (and sold out) near popular Colorado ski communities in Eagle County and Steamboat Springs. Also, another complex is scheduled to open about half a mile from Charleston International in South Carolina sometime next year.
