Governmental Funding

I just received a call from one of my friends who is concerned that her sister may have developed breast cancer and does not know what to do. The sister is unemployed and uninsured like so many American’s today should that be enough to worry about? Should she have to worry about affording a diagnostic mammogram? She went to a doctor who said well if you were my wife I would have you seen this week! Well we can send men into space but we cannot provide a potentially lifesaving test to everyone who needs it?

Should a woman have to choose between paying for her electricity or seeing if that lump she feels is cancer or not? This just totally outrages me. I called a couple of places today and found her some help but that is because I know about this. I have done the research to find out this before for my sister and all the cancer blogs that I have written but what if I did not have a computer, what if I was not computer literate where would I find this information?

Would you be surprised to know that Planned Parenthood offers free mammograms and screenings? When you hear about the protest against governmental funding of Planned Parenthood do you ever hear that? How sad that people only see part of what the funding to goes to and does not take into any consideration the lifesaving work that Planned Parenthood does.

So everyone knows you can call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 and tell them that you need the Health Information Team because you have a lump and no insurance and they can help find you someone to diagnose and treat if need be. They also have wonderful counselors there that can help you relax and talk you through all your fears too.

Again if NASA is no longer why shouldn’t the federal government make it easy for women to get screened for a potentially life threatening disease?

To see where this all started:

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
