Happy Grandparents’ Day!

Grandparents’ Day is tomorrow, and I would like to wish my son’s grandparents and all of you other grandparents out there a happy Grandparents’ Day. I am grateful that all four of my son’s grandparents are alive and well. They are all wonderful people and each of them contributes something very special to my son’s life – and mine too, for that matter. I am sure that as he grows, he will appreciate each of them for their unique qualities and the special times that they will share.

I had wonderful grandparents when I was younger. Okay, let me rephrase that, I had two wonderful grandmothers. Unfortunately, both of my grandfathers passed away before I was born. I have many memories of the fun things that I did with my grandmothers. My mother’s mother had beautiful gardens at her house and a nice back yard that my sister and I would play in. She made wonderful holiday meals, and took my sister and I to flower shows and other fun things. My father’s mother also did fun things with us and had wonderful holiday gatherings at her house too. Fortunately, we lived close enough to both grandmothers so we were able to see both of them on most holidays. Even though I lost both of my grandmothers when I was in high school, I will always have those memories of the wonderful times that we shared.

While I am happy that I have memories of my personal experience with my grandmothers, I do not have any real sense of who they were outside of their grandmotherly roles. Since I did not do any family history interviewing of them while they were alive to tell their stories, I may be able to learn more about them and about my grandfathers by asking my parents about their parents. While I am at it, I may also ask my parents about their own histories so that I can preserve them for my son.

What do you know about your grandparents?
