Has “The View” Already Found Star’s Replacement?

What a week it has been on ABC’s “The View.” On Tuesday, co-host Star Jones Reynolds made a surprise on-air announcement that she would not be returning for the show’s 10th season. Within hours PEOPLE magazine reported that Jones-Reynolds was in her words “fired” by ABC. Then, less than 24 hours later show creator, Barbara Walters told a live audience that she felt betrayed by Jones-Reynolds comments and as a result, the co-host of nine years would no longer be appearing on the “The View” effective immediately.

Now, word comes that Jones-Reynolds’s seat (which barely had time to get cold) at the infamous “hot-topics table” may be filled by a member of the MTV-generation. Rumors are swirling that singer-actress, Brandy (full name: Brandy Norwood) may be a serious contender for Jones-Reynolds’s job. According to ABC’s website, the 27-year-old former Moesha star will fill in as guest co-host next Wednesday and Friday.

Brandy’s rep says the singer, who is currently appearing as a judge on “America’s Got Talent,” an NBC reality show produced by “American Idol’s” Simon Cowell, couldn’t turn down the opportunity to be a guest co-host on “The View.” In an interview with PEOPLE magazine Brandy revealed, “I want to do a lot more TV.” What’s more, some say her stint on “The View” could lead to a full-time job. “These tryouts are for consideration for the permanent gig,” a source close to the situation tells PEOPLE.

Personally, I think that Brandy’s chances of becoming a permanent co-host are slim. The show already has a younger co-host in the way of former “Survivor” contestant, Elisabeth Hasselbeck. I think the show will eventually fill the vacant seat with a slightly older co-host. I wonder if Rachel Campos, of MTV’s “Real World” fame (who made it to the finals for the job the last two times the show was looking for a replacement) will be in the running again this time. Only time will tell.
