Have You Got The Monday Blues?

Why do so many people dislike Mondays? As someone who feels that Monday is just another day of the week, I have been curious about this for some time. There are a few explanations for why many of us feel such a strong dislike for Mondays. If you are a Monday-hater, read on – the first step to getting over your dislike for Mondays is to try to figure out why you hate them so much. Once you have identified the cause of your animosity for Mondays, you may be able to change the way you feel about them.

One explanation for the Monday blues is scientific. If you tend to sleep in on Saturdays and Sundays, you may think that you are catching up on much needed rest. Think again. The disruption in your body’s natural rhythms may be significant enough to leave you with a feeling that is similar to jet lag.

Another possible explanation is that you really do not like your job. If you work from home, you may be in a better position to deal with this issue than those that work for other people because you are in a position to do something about whatever it is about your work that bothers you. Many of us plod along day after day knowing that we feel some animosity towards our work but we never quite get around to thinking about why. If you take the time to figure it out, you can set a plan in motion to change it and begin to enjoy your workdays more – Mondays included.

Yet another possible explanation of why some people do not like Mondays comes from the spiritual sector. Advocates of religions that view Sundays as a day of rest, reflection, and prayer say that when people do not use their Sundays for these types of activities that tend to renew, refresh, and strengthen them for the coming week, they come up short of physical and spiritual energy on Monday morning because they have not taken time out to “recharge”.

All of these possible explanations seem plausible to me, and if I ever find myself thinking about how much I hate Mondays, I will have to remember these three potential causes of and cures for the Monday blues. Happy Monday, everyone!
