Help! Building a Business Library at Home

Other than a couple books on “style” for writers and a nice new paperback copy of “Webster’s Dictionary,” (the old one finally becoming so tattered I had to let it go) my work-at-home reference library is somewhat lacking. I’ve accumulated many books on nonprofit management, fund raising, grant writing, and public policy over the years, but these aren’t really reference books I’ve been turning to recently as I’ve been building my freelancing and public relations business. It dawned on me that this might be a good topic to get some feedback from all of you work-at-homers about…

In the past, I’ve pointed out what a great resource the local library can be for those of us who are working to build our businesses, but it seems that there may be some reference books that are so important and useful; they deserve a spot on our desk shelves. Have you read any great books lately that have inspired you in your entrepreneurialism or encouraged you as you build your business? Has anyone recommended an inspirational book that you’d be willing to pass on to the rest of us?

I’ve found that some of the most inspiring books haven’t necessarily been those designated and specific for business. When I find myself wandering the local bookstores, I’m more apt to discover encouragement in the inspirational or self-help aisle than in the business or writing books. I also find a great many tips and ideas in magazines, periodicals and online resources like this very website. Not to mention various newspaper articles. However, I’m open and looking for the necessary book titles to include on my business reference library shelf. It would be wonderful to hear from other business owners and home entrepreneurs in our families.com blog community about what you would recommend as a must-have on a business reference book shelf!
