Once young men receive the Aaronic Priesthood at the age of twelve, they take on added responsibilities. It is important to support your young man so that he can fulfill the responsibilities of the office that he holds. There are several things that parents and families can do to support their young men.
1) One of the first things you need to do is to buy your son a white shirt and a tie. It is important that he dresses himself in a neat and respectful manner. It would be great if you could teach him how to iron his own shirt each week. This will help prepare him for when he is on a mission. You can also teach him how to tie his own tie.
2) Another important way that you can support your young man is to help him arrive at church at least ten minutes early. If he is a teacher, it should be even earlier. If you live close enough to the church building, you can have him walk there, but you might need to encourage him to wake up on time. If you live far enough away that you have to drive, you many need to have the whole family ready early, and just go ten minutes early so that he can fulfill his duties.
3) Another important thing to do is to express your gratitude that he is willing and able to serve. Be sure to give him compliments on his reverent behavior, and how well he fulfilled his duties.
4) You may want to have a family home evening lesson on the restoration of the Priesthood. You should also talk about the duties and responsibilities that he is taking on. Each time he moves up you may want to review this family home evening lesson.
