Hidden Dust and Dirt

Yeah, I’m short. There are a lot of areas in my home that I’m not tall enough to see, such as the top of the fridge and the tops of window and door frames. The benefit to not being able to see these areas is that I don’t notice they need to be cleaned. Out of sight, out of mind, right? Wrong.

My mom owns a professional cleaning service and hidden dust and dirt are her specialties. She makes sure her helpers clean areas that many homeowners never think of or notice. The only problem is that since so many people don’t notice those areas are dirty, they also don’t notice that they have been cleaned. Mom makes a special effort to point these things out as well as dusty baseboards, fan blades, fan covers, furnace grates, and vents, etc.

So, now that I have no excuse, I’m going to have to clean all those places I tend to forget. I’m definitely not a neat freak, far from it, but I feel guilty with dust just sitting there. Dust isn’t good for our health, so I’m going to have to get rid of it. Thanks for pointing it out, Mom!

I have to admit (and now my mom will know) that I am not quite as conscientious about cleaning these areas as she is. I tend to run the vacuum hose over these spots and then hit them with a damp rag. I don’t polish until they shine, because nobody sees them anyway. Well, I guess I shouldn’t say nobody… my 6’2” brother in law might notice, but I don’t really think he cares.

Anyway, I hope you are all having a great, dust free day. Pardon me while I put an old sock over my broom handle and knock down this cobweb.
