High Five

My toddler has learned something new. That’s not an accurate representation. More accurately, she’s learned it again and being able to say the words is new. She’s so excited about it too. All of that together makes it a novelty for her and something that she just can’t stop doing. Jessie goes around asking everyone for a high-five. There is no act to trivial for a high-five. No person unworthy of a high-five.

Jessie tries to get Baby E to high five her. Baby E has no idea what’s going on, but that doesn’t stop Jessie. When Jessie does this I see John Travolta and the Look Who’s Talking baby, voiced by Bruce Willis, sharing high-five, low-five, baby-five. Cracks me up every time I think about it and every time I see Jessie do it.

Every night when Jessie goes to bed, we go in her bedroom where her big-girl bed is to change pants and put on jammies. Then we go into the nursery where her crib is. We brush teeth and sit on the floor to read books. Then it’s time for hugs and kisses. Jessie climbs in her bed and lays her head on her pillow pet and I zip up the crib tent. As I’m making my way to the door then she requests a high-five.

Last week we had to take Baby E to a doctor appointment. When one of the nurses was walking us to a different part of the hospital, Jessie turned around to the nurse and said, “High five.” Jessie will even request a high-five from the comfort of her car seat.

All the high-fiving has put Yo Gabba Gabba in my ear because there’s a high-five song on the show. Give your friend a big high five; there’s nothing like a friend.
