Home Color Trends for Fall 2007

Are we talking about fall already? Yep. Pantone recently released a report on color trends for the home in fall 2007. There are some surprises. While there are still vivid reds and oranges and deep browns, there is an interesting mix of other hues as well.

The reds are deep “red pepper” colors while the oranges are richer than the usual pumpkin pie colors. Brown has gone past the caramel neutrals and is expressed in cocoa and dark chocolate colors.

The other colors range from purplish pinks that seem to have been plucked from flowers like lilacs, while the other colors are slightly more subdued but can still be found in nature. Rich golden yellow, deep sage greens and teals, and blues from an almost consilk blue to dark blue gray.

Autumn colors 2007Fall Color Trends 2007While the warm autumn tones are still there, they’ve been kicked up a notch and brought together with other interesting and provocative shades and tones. Pantone describes the color palette as “exotic” and “unexpected.”

These colors allow for eye-catching combinations that still evoke that homey sense of warmth and comfort but with a bit more jazz. There is a bouquet of new colors to choose from, yet traditional autumn décor is still represented, just with a bit more flair.

Do you follow the trends in your decorating? Do you watch for these reports to get a sense of styles and colors for the next season? How often do you redecorate?

Most people who like to decorate are interested in learning about the current trends, even if we don’t follow them precisely or can’t afford to completely redecorate with each passing season. I won’t be re-doing the entire living room, but I am thinking that some pillows in these new fall colors would really liven up the space.

A friend just bought a great accent rug that incorporates most of the colors from the fall pallete, using geometric shapes, which are then surrounded by a deep cocoa border. She’s using it as inspiration for her bathroom and pulling colors from it for her other accessories. She seems to favor the deep blue and so far it’s a rich, attractive look. I can’t wait to see it when she’s done.
