Homemade Kits

I will be attending a baby shower this weekend, but have yet to purchase the gift. In contrast, my friend (and ride to the party) not only has her gift wrapped, she actually made the entire thing from scratch…kinda.

She’s giving our pregnant pal a homemade baby scrapbook kit.

I am having second thoughts about riding with her now.

There’s no way my gift is going to be able to top the one she’s giving, yet I love it anyway.

In fact, I wish she had made one for me.

Wink, wink.

She insists that it was a breeze to put together. She included: a gorgeous album, an acid-free glue stick, decorative paper, page protectors, frames, baby-themed stickers, stamps and die cuts, stencils, markers, scissors, and personal-size paper/photo cutter. She placed all of the items into a large basket and stuck a fabulous bow on the handle. It’s absolutely adorable and incredibly practical. After all, you don’t have to be an avid scrapper to appreciate a homemade kit. If you only make a single scrapbook in your life, let it be a baby memory album.

It sure beats getting a pre-fabricated Winnie the Pooh scrapbook. No offense to Pooh, but if the gift recipient is more into Snoopy than a walking, talking bear, then she has the ability to tailor the album to her own specifications.

Of course, you could also make a book and just leave spaces for the mom to place photos of her baby. If you are planning to go that route, then it’s best to select a generic theme, such as teddy bears, dolls, cars or balls. Another universal theme for baby scrapbooks is children’s stories. For example, when I was pregnant I received a Beatrix Potter-themed scrapbook filled with Peter Rabbit embellishments.

What’s the theme of your child’s baby book?
