Homeschool Curriculum Review: Educator.com

I was introduced to a new online education program called simply Educator. This website is geared toward higher level high school instruction, more specifically, AP level courses. Through the use of video instruction by some of the brightest minds in the country, a student is able to participate in an online lecture course with a teacher that would no be available to them on a local level.

This is a subscription based program that brings unlimited access to the entire database of courses, teachers, and instructional materials. Whether you student needs to learn Chemistry from beginning to end, or just brush up on the periodic table, the student will be able to learn exactly what they need to succeed. The most powerful feature of the website is the search engine which lets you pinpoint exactly where in the lecture your problem topic is being taught.

Currently, using Educator.com, students will be able to learn Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science. There is also a program called Math Magic that will allow students to address common pitfalls.

As this is a relatively new program, there are still some features that are currently in progress. They are:

  • They are working on accompanying worksheets that should be available by the end of September.
  • Subjects currently being developed are AP Physics, Trig/Precalc, and AP Chemistry. They should also be available for the new school year.
  • Possibility of expanding math before Algebra 1 level.

The current target audience for Educator.com is the last two years of high school and the first year of college. I believe this will help homeschoolers pass AP exams, and CLEP exams to help students start college at a higher level or test out of Freshman level classes. This will save thousands of dollars and help homeschoolers show that they have a quality high school education.
