Book Synopsis: (per Amazon.com)

Homeschooling Gifted and Advanced Learners covers everything from curriculum choices and learning styles, to integrating technology and online courses, to finding social support for both children and parents. From making the decision to homeschool to planning for the transition to college, this book has the answers parents of gifted homeschooled students need to help their children succeed!

My Thoughts:

Gifted and advanced learners present their own set of challenges to the homeschool environment. Many parents of gifted and advanced children decide to homeschool so they can provide a rich learning environment only to find they are overwhelmed or do not know how to challenge such students adequately. Cindy West, a veteran homeschooler and publisher of Nature Explorers, shows how homeschooling children who are gifted can be a joy and doable for any parent. She rests your mind and equips you through helping you understand learning styles and strategies to use in your homeschool. Every subject from gifted to talented is covered and included is a small section on how to help a child struggling in each subject.

Homeschooling Gifted and Advanced Learners is a necessary resource for all homeschoolers. Do not be put off by the title if you do not have a gifted child. The book lays the foundation for homeschooling by exploring legal aspects, learning styles, homeschool methods, and creating your own curriculum. The strategies used can be modified to apply to any student. The short sections on how to help a struggling student is brilliant as well. If you are new to homeschooling this is the first book you should purchase. It is easy to read, logically formatted, and simple to reference important ideas and advice quickly. You will enjoy her friendly style and real life experiences not to mention all the resources she shares in the book. The book is not to be missed. It is perhaps one of my favorite books written on the topic of homeschooling to date.
