How Clean is Your Dishwasher?

Nothing will have you running to the store for Super Iron Out faster than opening your dishwasher and seeing a slew of rust spots on your favorite utensils. Whink Rust Stain Remover is also a decent product that helps remove rust stains from appliances, such as dishwashers. However, whenever I see rust stains on my dishes I immediately clear out the dishwasher and fill the machine’s soap dispenser cup with Super Iron Out. I also sprinkle a bit on the bottom of the dishwasher too before running the washer on a regular cycle. If you don’t have commercial rust stain removers on hand, then reach for some orange Kool-Aid or Tang. The citric acid in the popular fruit drinks can help eliminate rust stains.

If you are trying to remove mineral build-up from the inside of your dishwasher, then try Glisten Dishwasher Cleaner. The product is specially designed to remove residue that accumulates in dishwashers over time. Finish Dishwasher Cleaner is also a good option. With Finish all you need to do is rip off the sticker and place the cleaner in the dishwasher upside down. However, before you turn on the machine, you need to run the water in your kitchen the sink, so that it can heat up. Once your tap water is at its hottest point, then turn on the machine.

After a full wash you will notice a marked difference in the interior of your machine. The hard water stains and mineral deposits should be a thing of the past. In addition, the next set of dishes you do should come out sparkling as well. The company recommends a second application, but if you are pleased with the first set of results you don’t have to follow-up with another round.

Glisten and Finish can be found at major discount retailers, such as Wal-Mart and Target. They sell for less than five bucks a piece. However, the manufacturers recommend that you use the products in your dishwasher at least once a month. Do the math and decide if you can afford to purchase 12 cleaners a year. Otherwise, consider the aforementioned frugal cleaning ideas.
