How “Green” Is Your Home Business?

Perhaps you have your recycling and conservation activities down pat when it comes to your home and family life, but haven’t really thought about how you can be more environmentally savvy with your home business? Or, perhaps you are a pro when it comes to “green” efforts and can share some of your tips and techniques with the rest of us? Either way, I thought we could have a little chat here about how to make our home businesses more environmentally sound…

There are some rather easy places to start in making your home business more “green”—starting with recycling your paper—by sorting and recycling all your business paper with your regular household papers, purchasing paper and stationery that is made from recycled products, and using and reusing paper completely in your home business, you can use less paper and be more environmentally conscious. Additionally, recycling your computer ink cartridges instead of just pitching them in the trash and purchasing new ones is another good way to “green up” your home business.

Consider the type of light bulbs, as well as how much energy you are using in your business. Do you turn off the lights and the computer and equipment at night or leave it on when it’s not being used? You can save a great deal of energy just by making sure everything is shut down when you’re not using it.

One great thing about many home businesses is that you may actually save fuel and energy by NOT commuting to a more traditional job. By spending less time in the car driving too and from work, you are cutting down on fuel usage. What are some other ways that we can make our home businesses more environmentally considerate? Any other suggestions for how to make our home businesses “green”?
