How to Fight the Belly Bulge

It’s Christmas time and while we are all especially fond of the image of the jolly Santa Claus with his bowl full of jelly image – it’s not one that we may want for ourselves. Luckily, there seems to be new research out there that indicates you may just need to eat a few more oranges in order to bring your belly back under control.

People who carry a lot of extra weight around their midsection are usually at a higher risk for heart disease, diabetes and obesity. These different conditions can actually sap your body’s vitamin C resources. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and it helps fight cellular damage and studies have found that thinner people usually have higher levels of vitamin C in their bodies than those who are overweight.

Let’s Talk About Your Body

Vitamin C can be found in most citrus fruits, papayas, bell peppers and other vegetables. The vitamin C in your body helps to prevent oxidation of your cells and repair them – it’s the difference between having rusty pipes internally and leaves you with cellular damage. The medical conditions above accelerate this oxidation of your cells and can lead to more problems.
Losing weight around your middle is a lot easier said than done and the best way for you to reduce the possibility of this cellular damage is to lose that excess weight around your middle. Chances are, thinner people may eat more vitamin-C foods and take their daily vitamins. It could also just be simple biology, so overdosing on Vitamin C will not make you slimmer.

However, if you eat a low-fat and higher fiber diet and include a lot of Vitamin C in your diet, you can protect yourself from the cellular damage. Regular exercise is a key component, but maintaining a healthier diet can give you a better shot at getting the thinner figure you want.

Do you get enough vitamin C in your diet?
