How to Find Interesting Genealogy Reading Material Online

Whether you are new to genealogy or an expert, you may want to take some time once in a while to learn more about your hobby by reading some genealogy blogs. No, this is not a shameless attempt at self – promotion from a genealogy blogger. It is more of a reminder that there is just so much great information out there on genealogy blogs that any genealogist could find something interesting to read on any given day.

One way to look for genealogy blogs to read is to simply do a Google search for “genealogy blogs”, or add some words to that search term that describe your particular genealogical interests such as “African American Genealogy” or “Genealogy in Maine”. You are sure to find at least a few things to read that way.

There is also a great list of the Top 100 Most Popular Genealogy Websites. The list was created by GenealogyInTime Magazine, and it has all kinds of web sites and blogs on it for your reading enjoyment. Even better, the list has blogs and web sites from all over the world.

I took a look at some of the blogs on the list, and found that some very interesting posts have been written recently by genealogy bloggers. For example, a recent post on Eastman’s Online Genealogy Newsletter talks about how hearings that are being held by the House Ways and Means Committee could potentially affect genealogists’ ability to access a very important research resource – the Social Security Death Index.

As I mentioned before, the list includes many more types of web sites and online genealogy resources other than blogs. That makes it an even more useful list to check out from time to time when you have a couple of minutes and want to find something interesting to read or to look at. It can also help you to think of new places to look for records and do research online.
