Scrapbooking is my passion first and foremost, but for the past couple of months I have discovered card making and am absolutely in love with it. It is a great way to use up your scraps and extra embellishments as well as spread a little cheer among family and friends. My absolute favorite card to create is called a criss cross card and I use them for cards as well as pockets on scrapbooking layouts. They are so versatile!
To make a criss cross card (or pocket) you need to start with a piece of cardstock. Depending on the size you are looking for, you will need to your height to be half of the width. In other words, begin with a piece of 12×12 cardstock and cut it down to 6×12. You may change the size to meet your needs, but for a card, this is a great size. It is also a great size for using on a scrapbooking layout as a journaling pocket or something else.
Once you have your paper it is time to get started. Using a scoring blade, you will want to score at the 4” and the 8” mark. Then fold your cardstock where the scoring marks are.
Next you will need to cut the angles for the top of the criss cross card. Both sides need to be even and cut the same way, but opposite direction. For instance, start at the 4” mark from the left and cut down towards the bottom left corner – the 0” mark. Then start at the 8” mark and cut downwards towards the 12” mark. This is what you should have at this point.
Now its time to cut out the triangles for the front of the card or pocket. This can be tricky, but you might want to use the pieces you just cut off as templates. Choose two coordinating pieces of paper and cut and glue them in place.
It should look like this when you are finished.
