How to Make Great Coffee

Does everyone groan when you make the coffee at work? Are you constantly picking up cups of coffee at expensive shops because it tastes so much better? Don’t worry, it isn’t that hard to make great coffee at home. You just need to know a few of the secrets that will make a difference.

Start Clean

A clean coffee maker can make all of the difference in the world when it comes to good coffee. Clean the pot and the spot where the grounds go well, so your next cup of coffee will be smooth and not bitter.

It’s All in the Water

The water that you use to make your coffee can affect its taste. If you normally use tap water to make your coffee, first run it through a water filter, or choose a coffee maker that contains a built in water filter.
The temperature of the water can sometimes affect the taste as well. If you use a coffee press instead of a coffee maker, boil the water and then wait a few minutes for it to cool just a bit before adding it to the press. Coffee shouldn’t be made with boiling water.

Proper Care of Beans

You take care to select the best beans for your coffee, also take care to treat them right. Invest in an inexpensive coffee grinder, and grind your beans right before brewing your coffee.

Whatever you do, do not freeze coffee or even store it in the refrigerator. Many people do this to try to lock in the freshness (coffee goes stale after just a few weeks), but this can ruin the coffee. All you will do is cause the natural moisture (and flavor) to leave the beans, making them go stale faster and taste lackluster. Plus, the beans may pick up other flavors from food kept in the fridge.
