Happy Halloween!
It’s T-minus 6 hours until the ghouls, goblins and ghosts are unleashed around the neighborhood. Snap-happy parents will be taking aim at their little monsters as they collect candy from friends, neighbors and virtual strangers. Then, it’ll be time to unload the loot and get sugared up.
While my daughter devours her share of sugar, I’ll be going through my freshly snapped photos to see which will make the cut for my annual Halloween-themed scrapbook layout.
Last Friday, I paid a visit to my local scrapbook shop to see if the manager had marked down some of the Halloween paper and embellishments. No luck. However, she did discount a bunch of pinky/princessy-themed materials that were leftover from summer.
If my daughter were dressing up as a ballerina, Pinkalicious or any other princess-type character this Halloween I would have scooped up the entire bin of embellishments. Unfortunately, she’s going as a penguin. However, my discovery just goes to prove that you don’t have to stick exclusively with Halloween-themed paper, pumpkin-print cardstock and ghostly embellishments to create a layout for your trick-or-treat photos.
For example, some frugal scrapper could have made a killing buying the princess-themed sale merchandise and using it to embellish her Halloween layout, especially if her daughter was dressing up as Cinderella. There was a kit on sale which included rub-ons, stamps and gem stickers, as well as coordinating quotes from Cinderella, such as: “If the shoe fits,” “A dream is a wish your heart makes when it’s fast asleep,” and “Happily ever after…”
In addition to the princess items, my local scrapbook store had a bunch of cheerleading-themed embellishments on clearance. If your child was being transformed into a pom-pom-toting tot for Halloween, then you could have scored big time using those items to decorate your page design; rather than filling the layout with generic pumpkin stamps, candy stickers and black cat die cuts.
Bottom line: Exercise some creativity when crafting costume-themed scrapbook layouts. By thinking outside the box, you can often save big bucks.
