Hugs and Kisses Cookies—Just in Time for Valentine’s Day!

Love is in the air in February. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and you know what that means—sweets! Want to surprise a special someone this Valentine’s Day? How about brightening up a neighbor or co-workers day? Here’s an extra special treat that’s sure to melt any heart, young or old. And if you have young kids, these make a great treat to bring to school. Kids of any age will love helping to mix the dough, cut out the cookie shapes, and decorate the finished cookies.

You can glam up these cookies any way you’d like, but I think the basic recipe is just right as is.

For this recipe you’ll need:

1 bag of Valentine-style M&M brand milk chocolate candies

1 bag (approximately 1 pound 1.5 ounces) cookie mix—peanut butter flavor or sugar cookie flavor

2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour

Red and white tube frosting

Wax paper sheets

Alphabet cookie cutters in “X”s and “O”s

To make this recipe:

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.

In a large bowl, prepare the cookie mix according to package directions. Next, stir in the flour, mixing with a wooden spoon or mixer until blended.

Using two sheets of waxed paper, roll the dough to ¼-inch thickness. Use the cookie cutters to cut out “X”s and “O”s. Transfer the cut-out cookies to a cookie sheet that has been sprayed with cooking spray.

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until cooked through.

Remove the cookies from the oven, then place them on a wire rack. Allow the cookies to cool on the wire rack completely, then frost the cookie tops with the red or white frosting. Finally, decorate as desired with the M&M candies.

Tip: Placing the milk chocolate candies in rows along the sides of the “X”s and around the “O”s looks especially nice.
