Increase the Laughter in Your Lives

Laughter is a fabulous thing. It makes us feel great. In fact, one of the greatest joys of my marriage is the laughter I have shared with my husband. He is one of the funniest people I have ever known. Laughter is great gift for any relationship or person because it releases chemicals in the brain that not only reduce your stress, but also enhance your mood.

It’s this reason that we are often attracted to the people that make us laugh from the actors to the comedians to the individuals in our daily lives. Laughter is a vital part of the health of your relationship and your own health – the benefits of laughter include:

  • Increasing natural pain killers in your blood
  • Lifting your spirits
  • Keeping freshness in your relationship
  • Stimulation for your immune system
  • Reducing your tension and stress
  • Bringing you and your spouse closer together

So with all these benefits, the question shouldn’t be why do we laugh, but how do we laugh more? How do we increase the laughter in our lives?

To answer that question, here are a few tips for you and your spouse to increase the laughter in your lives:

  • Watch romantic, situation and other comedies together – enjoy the laughter you share
  • Bring up moments of funny absurdities in your shared and personal pasts
  • Don’t just reflect on the day’s events at the dinner table, make sharing a funny moment that happens to each person a part of the dinner table conversation
  • See something funny somewhere? Send the jokes, cartoons and others to your spouse via text message, email or other – there’s nothing like a spot of laughter to brighten up the day
