Infertility: Taking Care of Yourself

When you are going through infertility treatments, it’s easy to neglect your health. You are so focused on treatments and running back and forth to doctor’s visits that you may neglect your health. If you have been going through infertility for an extended period of time, you may feel depressed. This can cause you to neglect yourself.

It’s important to take care of yourself when you are going through infertility treatments. Take care of yourself both physically and emotionally. The time you invest in caring for yourself now will benefit your baby later. A healthy mommy increases the chances of a healthy baby.

Pay attention to your diet. It’s easy to grab fast food when running from your doctor’s appointment back to work. Making a habit of this is not healthy. Pack a healthy lunch to bring with you. Choose healthy foods and bring along some healthy snacks to keep you away from the drive through window.

When you are scheduling appointments and going through infertility testing, you may let your exercise routine slide. It can be hard to make time for exercise, or you may feel depressed and not want to go to the gym. Making time for exercise is important for your overall health and emotional well being.

Exercise releases endorphins in the brain that boost your mood. Staying in good physical shape will be beneficial when you do get pregnant as well. Women who exercise before and during pregnancy tend to have a healthier weight gain and fewer complications during pregnancy. In addition, women who exercise regularly tend to have shorter labors and a lower rate of interventions and c sections.

Take some time to pamper yourself. Going through infertility treatments is an emotionally taxing experience. Spend some time relaxing and being pampered. Go to a spa for the day or just have a massage and a facial. You will feel rejuvenated and ready to face the next cycle.
