Insurance Blog Week In Review November 14-20, 2006

It seems like the right time for the Insurance Blog “week in review” to kick off! For me insurance has been like gum stuck on the bottom of my shoe, I started insurance in 1982 when I was 19-years-old. When I started there were no computers, agents rated manually–with paper, pencil and calculators. I was able to see how each policyholders rate was calculated, and why everything actually made a difference.

My first job with insurance was a wonderful experience, I worked with a man who was an ex-motorcycle “member?”–gone right. When I gave birth to my oldest child, my boss made a nursery in one of the rooms in our office. After I left that position I remained friends with my first insurance boss until he died. But, leaving that position didn’t get insurance off my shoe. I have had some interesting insurance positions over the years, and now I am still dealing with insurance writing here!

I know that most people don’t want to think about all the ins and outs of insurance. My hope is that the Insurance Blogs make clear–in normal language–some of the things many people don’t understand about insurance. As our families grow and build there are certain things people want to have in place just in case they ever need to file a claim.

Insurance People are a bit strange Monday mornings are generally sweep-up days, and when we file all the weekend claims and changes. My week actually starts on Tuesdays because usually that’s when I can see the bottom of my desk. The week in review and the actual Blogs I write are designed to make insurance understandable and point out the different types of insurance as well as the risks you may not be aware you take.

This week in Review the series about Long Term Care Insurance continued. This has been a very interesting project and future articles will be written on this topic. I plan to research and get some quotes for my mother and father. They are at the age they need to consider if Long Term Care Insurance would be something they need. So far, these are the Blogs for this series.

Holiday

I also started the How To Have a Claim Free Holiday Season Blog. That one is going to be fun! I plan to update the information and create a useful resource for everyone. I am having a wonderful time reading other Families.com Blogs and adding them to this great project! Be sure to let me know if you have an idea for a Blog that should be added to How to Have a Claim Free Holiday Season.

I am writing several insurance specific blogs for this resource and this week wrote about Guest Medical the Good Will Insurance everyone should read that one! It has been interesting sharing some of the liabilities we accept as a risk when we cook and have visitors at our homes.

The week ended with a reminder for anyone who is on a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan wanting to make a change it needs to be done by December 8 in order to have benefits in place at the first of the year. If you have parents, or grandparents who are on Medicare be sure to ask them if they have enrolled in a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan yet and if they need any help understanding how to sign up for one.

This week the Claim Free Holiday section will continue to expand with helpful tips and ways to reduce your personal risks!
