Insurance Podcast Roundup – Week of April 16, 2012

microphone It is time for the Insurance Podcast Roundup once again! This is where to find brand new episodes of podcast that talk about insurance related news, issues, and changes. Listening to podcasts is a great way to learn about things that could, potentially, affect the insurance that covers you and your family.

PBS NewsHour released an episode on April 10, 2012. This episode is called “U.S. Dental Crisis: Sen. Sanders on the Fight for Coverage”. This episode features an interview with Senator Bernie Sanders, an Independent from Vermont. Topics include: the lack of dentists, the high cost of dental care, and the fact that it is difficult to find a dentist who will accept Medicare. He also talks about solutions for these problems.

WBEZ 91.5 has an episode that was released on April 12, 2012. This episode is called “All Kids health program set to drop thousands soon”. This episode discusses the upcoming eligibility changes to the All Kids Medicaid health care program in Illinois. The change will leave thousands of seriously ill children who are currently using All Kids as their only form of health insurance completely uninsured. It tells the story of one family who will be affected by this change.

Policast released an episode on April 13, 2012. The first portion of this episode is unrelated to insurance. However, at around 4:34, things get interesting! Michael Broadcorp was a staffer at the Minnesota Senate. He was fired for having an affair with his boss (a woman). He filed for unemployment insurance benefits, but his application was rejected. He is now appealing the rejection and intending to sue the Minnesota Senate.

The Clark Howard Radio Show has an episode that was released on April 13, 2012. You want to look for Hour 2 of the program. The insurance related topic starts at around 17:00. Clark talks about how some health insurance companies are directly paying their customers cash rewards if they seek out cheaper health care. This is happening in New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Indiana. Clark also talks about why he believes that health care should be individualized. It matches much of the regulations laid out in the Affordable Care Act. This segment ends around 21:34.

Ask Tim released an episode on March 16, 2012. This episode is number 30 and is called “Employees’ Autos”. Tim gives you a lot of information about how insurance works when employees use their own vehicles to do company business.
