Hello everyone, my name is Valerie Nelson and I am the newest blogger for the Families.Com education blog. I am very excited about this opportunity to write about a topic that is so dear to my heart. I also currently write for the Single Parent Blog and that has been a great adventure.
When the opportunity to write for the education blog became available, my first thought was “Are you crazy, how are you going to find the time to write 20 more articles per month?” After the initial fear wore off-I new that this could be another great adventure.
I have two school age children and like many parents, I am deeply concerned about the educational system and the many challenges it is facing. Because I have consulted with educational organizations over the past four years, I believe that I am uniquely positioned to offer an interesting perspective and hopefully create positive debate, while being informative. Through my previous research; primarily dealing with urban schools, charter schools, and youth development organizations, I have gained a wide array of knowledge and understanding of the American educational system.
I think teachers and administrators are wonderfully gifted, grossly underpaid people who deserve the very best incentives and bonuses the job can possibly offer. The system is not perfect and some children do get left behind, but I think that there is a serious desire from all sides to improve upon what we have and make the country’s education system one of the finest in the world.
What are some of the topics that you would like to see written about? What will be most helpful for you and your families? I know many of us would like to forget about school during the summer months, but our education never really stops does it? We are always learning. There are a lot of fun things or topics that we can disseminate even through the lazy days of summer. Let me know what you want and I will do my best to deliver.
