Introduction!

Hello! I am sooo excited to be your new Work From Home Blogger. I’m Debbie and I have been a work at home mom for almost 6 years. When my son Alex was born, my husband and I agreed that we did not have children so someone else could watch them. We had idealistic dreams that I would be a stay at home mom with an immaculate house and a gourmet dinner on the table every night….. wow, were we in for a surprise! No one prepared me for what it’s like to stay at home! Mac and Cheese, here I come!

I went from a job I really enjoyed (I’m a work-a-holic anyway) to taking care of one kid. I went from being a journalist in the spotlight to a mother with one fan, my needy child! Instead of editing articles, I was now changing diapers and editing grammar.

Do I regret my decision? Not at all! I was lucky. My son slept a lot. However, I got really, really bored. There is only so much of “The Little House on the Prairie”, “The Nanny” and “Days of Our Lives” you can watch before you begin to feel your brain cells fading.

Do you remember the credit card commercial about the mom who finally went to the symphony with her husband and finally spoke like an adult after being isolated at home with her children? “What a wonderful use of iambic pentameter, WHAMATOR.” That was me, except I don’t think I would have been able to recall the word ‘iambic’. I was so bored I began an outdoor Shakespeare non-profit company (which is another topic altogether).

Since our finances were beginning to suffer and my son slept a lot, I began freelancing for my old employer. Though I love to write, it was challenging to take a young child with me to interviews and every time I sat down to write he would interrupt me.

When Alex was a year, I went to a Discovery Toys party. I loved the products and wanted everything, so I signed up for the discount. Since I am motivated by free items, I worked a few workshops and enjoyed myself. I loved the products and they were easy to share. I was making $25 to $100 an hour just in my Rocket Start and my business began to grow.

As Alex’s sleep schedule changed, I began to focus more on my toy business. After earning a few trips, I realized that the key to success is passion and motivation. Five years later I soon began my other business, Passion to Success, helping others find their passion and get started working from home.

I hope I am not boring you with the details of the last six years of my life. There is a lot more to it then this brief summary including failures, burn out, and new beginnings. I hope you will be able to learn from my experiences.

Three years ago I had my second child, Billy, who completely changed the dynamics of working from home altogether. Then my husband and I opened up a franchise which created another interesting bump, and a stronger need for me to make a side income.

In this blog, I plan to share with you tips for being successful in working from home, finding your passion and making it work for you, balancing work and children, staying focused and more. Feel free to leave questions for me to answer.

I look forward to being your work from home Blogger.
