iPhone on The Move

Eager for the iPhone to arrive? In anticipation of Friday’s iPhone release date, shipments of the Apple iPhone have been making their way through the United States during this past weekend. The iPhones are currently being stored in various locations throughout the country, in FedEx storage facilities. They will remain in those facilities until they mobilize again for the big launch.

The somewhat covert operation of moving all of those iPhones has caused some challenges. For example, the arrival of the iPhones had to be heralded in with armed security guards, such as the kind you might find guarded Wells Fargo truck or a shipment of gold or diamonds.

The iPhones first flew their way in through an air courier, based in Hong-Kong.

We already talked about, in an earlier article, how AT&T, the mobile service carrier for the iPhone, is going to be staffing its own security people for the launch day. In fact, some estimates claim that AT&T will be employing an additional 2,000 workers just to help them meet the demand of all of those potential iPhone customers.

In fact, the launch date this Friday has been affectionately termed: “iDay” in honor of the iPhone and the massive amount of interest surrounding it. Analysts anticipate as much as $200 million in sales in on that one day alone.

Isn’t it funny to think that a cellular phone would ever need to be guarded by armed personnel? Or that such a huge amount of money could be spent by millions of people across the country, all on one day for one device?

It is even more amazing for me, I think, since I don’t even own a cell phone. But the iPhone certainly looks pretty cool, and just might be the device that has me joining the other 76 percent of you out there that already own some sort of cell phone.
