It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year for Thrift Store Bargains

christmas Is the Christmas music still playing in your home or have you already moved on from the holidays? I’ve been encountering a little bit of both in the past two days. There is a desire both too hold on to Christmas as it has come too quickly, and a desire to prepare for the new year.

One way that folks are moving on and preparing for the new year is by getting all of their last donations in before the calendar hits 1/1. This way, everything can be taken off of taxes for the year. This is true not only for families like ourselves, but also for businesses that want to clear inventory. Many businesses, such as Target, donate leftover merchandise to thrift stores.

All of this donating makes it a great time of the year to go hunting for bargains. There are a lot of treasures to be found, as well as discounts on the discounts. I took a trip to our local thrift store yesterday and found a lot of great deals. My father is visiting, and he loves to hunt for interesting things. We stopped off on the way home from elsewhere. While my father and I shopped, my husband and the kids waited in the car and counted the number of cars that were coming in and out to the donation dock. They averaged around one car of donations per minute.

At this time of year, you’ll find lots of new clothing with tags on them, either donated by those businesses or donated by people who got them as Christmas gifts. Bargain hunters may also have been overzealous in snatching up the pre-Christmas sales, and many of the items may have been non-returnable (or the purchases don’t want to be bothered returning the items). Children’s Place, Gap, Talbots, Eddie Bauer, Old Navy, Disney and Ann Taylor are a few of the name brands I spotted that still had tags on them.

Check back later today when I’ll give you more information on the thrift store bargains to be had at this time of year.
