Jaime Says Goodbye to Families.com

Yes, I wrote about Greg Page saying goodbye to The Wiggles. However, I must say a goodbye also. Yes, I am leaving Families.com — at least for a while. I took a job as an event coordinator for a company that works with children’s charities. I think it is a good career move for me. Maybe I will be able to come back in the future when I get the hang of my new job, but for now I must go.

I remember when I took the job at Families.com in November of last year. I was hoping to write for the Parenting blog, but I got assigned to Consumer Reviews. I was disappointed at first, but then I started to have fun with it. “Consumer Reviews?” you might be thinking, “Where is that category?” Well, apparently they decided that it was not receiving enough traffic, so I got reassigned to the then Movie and Media Reviews. Then, as you know, those two split and I became the sole Media Reviews blogger. Anyhow, I digress. Over the course of the time that I was the Consumer Reviews blogger, I wrote about many things. The first couple of weeks, I wrote about baby stuff — breast pumps and bottles, equipment for baby proofing your home, toys, etc. Then I got into the fun stuff. It was about that time that my husband had settled into our new apartment in Maryland and we were having trouble with the new cable company. I decided to share that experience with everyone and how I learned many valuable lessons, such as always getting the names of customer service reps and monitoring your bill. I wrote about restaurants and savings books, our experience buying a car, and a great deal of children’s DVDs.

Once I switched over to Media Reviews, I was pretty much writing about what I had been writing about anyway — DVDs, music, and books. I re-read books that were favorites when I was a child, such as the Ramona series by Beverly Cleary and the Fudge books by Judy Blume. I listened to various artists like Laurie Berkner, Dan Zanes, and the wonderful Kidz Bop Kidz. I explored the glorious art of the Caldecott Medal books and the confusing notions of some of the stories in those books.

Throughout my experience over the last year as a blogger for Families.com, I have met many incredible people. Lisa Pietsch, Community Manager, has had an open door from the beginning and I think that she is a great asset to Families.com and is perfect for her job. Tristi Pinkston, who is becoming the sole Media Reviews blogger for now, joined me just a few short months ago and is an amazing writer and a fantastic co-worker. All of the other bloggers who have left comments and responded to e-mails and have allowed me to guest blog will always be with me in my future writings.

I just want to say “Thank You” to everyone for a great year. I hope that I will be able to return to you all soon. I will still remain an active Families.com member, so feel free to send me a message anytime.

And in the immortal words of the great American television sports journalist Howard Cosell, “That’s telling it like it is.”
