Jesse James Says He was Abused as a Child

Things just seem to be going from bad to worse for Jesse James. First, we learned that he cheated on Sandra Bullock, “America’s Sweetheart,” just days after she won her first Oscar.

Then, the news came out that there were pictures circulating the Internet of James in Nazi apparel. As mistresses seemed to appear out of the woodwork, we find out that not only did James cheat on Sandra, but they had planned to adopted a baby no one knew about.

Seriously, could it get any worse? Maybe.

James admitted on “Nightline” last night that he had a reason for cheating – he was abused as a child. Here’s an excerpt of what James said:

“I was a terrorized kid. I was petrified of my dad … It wasn’t so much getting the sh– beat out of me or getting my arm broken or getting kicked or whatever or punched, it was the in-between time. It was the fear of that happening again.

I grew up with a huge amount of shame and fear and abandonment on my shoulders from a very young age, and I think, you know, the way my mind rationalized [cheating], ‘Well, you know, I might as well do whatever I can to like run her off, ’cause she is going to find out what I am anyway and leave me anyway.’”

James said the “struggle within” made him sabotage his marriage because had “basically never felt good enough for anyone.”

These memories of abuse returned to James when he entered rehab, right after the news of his infidelities broke.

While James’ insists his father’s abuse never gave him a “chance to be a kid,” Larry James says that James’ allegations are untrue.

So, what do you think? Jesse James – serial cheater or abuse victim? Personally, and maybe I am wrong, it sounds to me like James is just reaching for straws here. But then again, maybe he was abused and it all plays into his tough guy persona.

I guess we will never truly know unless his dad comes out and says “Yeah, I abused Jesse as a child” and even then, I am not sure I buy that that made him cheat on Sandra.
