A lot has been written about Jessica Simpson’s big pocketbook (and I’m not talking about the size of her latest, luxury leather Louis Vuitton creation), I’m referring to the millions she raked in as a result of putting her marriage on display on MTV. Simpson and then husband Nick Lachey’s reality show “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica” skyrocketed the pair from mid-range B-listers to one of Hollywood’s hottest A-list couples.
Two years ago their relationship bottomed out when Simpson filed for divorce. In the days and weeks that followed the media took aim at the blond beauty’s treatment of Lachey and her “lack of heart” during the split. I thought about those references when I heard about Simpson’s latest headline grabbing move.
According to PEOPLE magazine, Simpson is making quite a name for herself in Mexico, but it has nothing to do with her singing abilities. The manager of a Mexican orphanage says she is “in love” with the star’s “big heart.” (At first I thought something got lost in the translation.) As it turns out Mama Lupita, who runs the Casa Hogar Elim orphanage in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico meant exactly what she said.
The magazine claims that last week, someone asked Mama Lupita if she could use a van at the orphanage. Since the home for displaced children has no means of transportation at all, Mama Lupita answered, “Yes.” Minutes later she was told that Simpson was donating a new eight-passenger van to the orphanage.
According to PEOPLE, Mama Lupita cried for three minutes straight and then said, “I can’t wait to give Jessica a big hug.”
Interestingly, the van used to be a sports car. It didn’t morph on it’s own. Here’s the real story: Last fall, while Simpson was visiting a swag suite at MTV’s Video Music Awards pre-party she won a Chrysler Crossfire sports car. According to a spokesperson for the car manufacturer, a few days after her win, Simpson asked Chrysler to exchange it for a minivan so she could help out the orphanage.
But, that’s not all. Mama Lupita’s love for Simpson runs deeper than the new wheels. It was just announced that the singer is now auctioning off (it is listed on eBay) the sexy red dress she wears in her new Pizza Hut commercials. Proceeds from the dress will also go to help Casa Hogar.
