Keeping My Camera Protected From Scratches

I keep a Casio Exilim in my purse just in case I find an interesting photo subject while traveling through my daily life. The Exilim is tiny enough I don’t notice any extra weight in my purse. It meets my basic needs by powering up quickly and requiring no real effort to use. The Nikon D50 just isn’t practical to carry with me for everyday usage.

The problem is the Exilim is getting scratched by banging around with all the other mom junk in my purse. I don’t think there is anything large enough in my purse to actually damage the camera but I am afraid the LCD display is going to get scratched. When I was at the camera store last week I fell in love with the purse like camera totes on the market. After a little internet research I have determined the purse tote isn’t practical for my needs. Although it was adorable, stylish and would protect my camera it would be too bulky to put inside my purse. I started looking at some of the other options on the internet. I couldn’t find what I wanted.

This morning the crafty mom in me had a light bulb come on and I decided to just make my own case. Actually it is more of a pouch than a case. Yes I can sew. I had some left over fabric from a beach bag I made last summer. There was even enough pink satin to make a liner for the inside of the pouch. Basically it looks like a mini pillow case for my camera. The bottom corners are mitered for a tailored look. I am still debating if I need to made a closure for the pouch or leave it open for quick access.

How cute am I going to look at the beach this summer having a matching camera pouch and beach bag?
