Nothing says “I love you” more than a homemade gift from the heart. This is especially true on Mother’s Day.
Think about it; moms are typically the ones nudging kids to the crayon box to craft gifts for others on special occasions, so think about how nice it would be for her to be on the receiving end of one of those handcrafted works of art made by tiny hands that developed in her womb.
If you are the one in charge of getting the kiddos to work their artistic magic on mom’s gift, consider the following:
RECIPE BOX
Find a plain shoe box or a plain cardboard box to decoupage for mom. Have the kids cut-out pictures of food from magazines or make copies of photos taken of mom whipping up some of her favorite dishes in the kitchen. Next, adhere the photos to the box with glue. Then, seal it with a couple of coats of specially-formulated decoupage finish (such as Mod Podge) which you can find at a craft or hobby store. Allow the sealant to dry thoroughly before adding a label on the box that reads: “Mom’s Special Recipes.” You could also add some embellishments, including stickers, gems, glitter or sequins to spice up the outside of the box as well.
CANDLE HOLDER
Materials:
Clean glass baby food jars with the labels removed
Paint
Paint brushes
Glue
Glitter
Small votive candles
Directions:
Have the kids decorate each jar with paint. They can paint the entire jar or simply add deigns such as flowers, hearts or happy faces. Once the paint dries, cover the jar with an even layer of glue, and then pour glitter over it. If the jar has designs painted on it, then choose select areas where you want the glitter to add some sparkle. Finally, add a small votive candle to the jar before presenting it to mom.
