A few months back I’d written about a the Latin America vs. Europe dispute Wayne and I’d been having. To reiterate: we’ve both been wanting to go on vacation out of the States, but we haven’t been able to agree on where. He wants to see Latin America; I want to see Europe.
We finally found a way to settle it once and for all.
The Contest
Because of the current economic situation, it’s not the best time to head to Europe. I know that. And Wayne really knows that. (The accountant in him was raising objections left and right.) But, being as understanding as he is, he also knows just how badly I’d like to go.
So he came up with the idea of a contest: whoever loses the most weight in three months gets to pick where we go.
Well, really “loses” should be “lost” because we already did the contest. We started it right before my mom moved in and it ended shortly before she passed away.
And the Winner Was…
Wayne didn’t really need to lose weight. Maybe a few pounds at most. I’ve suffered with weight issues for 20 years and could stand to get rid of a good 40 pounds at least, but have trouble even shedding five. Wayne knows this, and I think he thought his win was in the bag. But he underestimated just how badly I want to see France or Ireland.
But there was somehting else neither of us banked on: all the stress I’d be under dealing with my mom. It ended up helping me lose 15 pounds.
And win the contest.
(Wayne actually ended up gaining a couple when all was said and done!)
Ireland? Or France?
I won fair and square, but do you know when it came down to having to choose one of my destinations I couldn’t do it? My frugal side got the better of me. (I want to enjoy Europe, not stress about how much it’s costing us.)
But I didn’t want to go to Costa Rica or Brazil either. (Wayne’s picks.)
I really just wanted to head to the nearest beach, rent a condo, and chill out, but Wayne had some sky miles he wanted to redeem. In other words, he really wanted to go somewhere.
Sailing Away
So I suggested either Puerto Rico or Alaska.
We decided on an Alaskan cruise, which we’ll be enjoying next month.
