Leap Year or Not—February is a Short Month for Business

I have mixed feelings about February. To begin with, it is my birthday month, so I am rather fond of it for that reason only. From a work perspective, however, it tends to give me a bit of stress. With 2-3 days less in the month, you would think that it might make things easier but for a woman who needs every day an every hour to try to generate income—three (or two) in a leap year less days can have an effect on my bottom line and my energy level.

I imagine it might be more mental than anything—I tell myself that I’ve got less time in the month of February and the pressure is on; I’ve got to make every minute and every day count. It is probably an unreasonable way to go about a month that is really only a couple days short. Plus, in a leap year like this one, we’ve got this extra day to even things out. It amazes me that I can let the fact that February is a little bit shorter be such a factor in how I approach my work and business efforts for the month. There have still been four full weeks in February which is quite typical. Why do I let those two-three days get to me?!

The interesting thing that does happen for me with February is that I jump right into March—I think it is that deprivation thinking that comes off of a shorter month, coupled with the fact that I feel a little more relaxed knowing that I’m back to a regular month for work. Even though I know this is “all in my head” the number of days on those little squares on my desk calendar seem to have some sort of an affect on my motivation and organization!
