Punxsutawney Phil is back in his hole, the NFL crowns its champ tonight, and 15-day celebration to usher in the Year of the Dragon wraps up at midnight. That can only mean one thing: Let the Love Day games begin.
Valentine’s Day is just about a week away, and even though Wal-Mart and Target have been selling Love Day merchandise since December 27th, now is the time to really solidify plans for the heart-shaped holiday.
If you are planning a Valentine’s Day party you’ll want to get your shopping list set. Think: pink, red and silver confetti to sprinkle on tables, Valentine’s pinatas, glow-in-the-dark roses, origami flowers, scented candles, and heart-shaped treats, such as cakes, cookies, and candy.
As for Valentine’s Day party favors, keep it sweet and simple. The ever-popular “Hugs and Kisses Jar” is a cinch to make and won’t blow your party budget. All you need are a few empty glass jars, a couple bags of Hershey’s Chocolate Hugs and Kisses, some pink or red ribbon and small tags. Fill the jars with the candy, attach the lid, and then add a note on the tag to read: “To (party guest), Hugs and Kisses from (your name).”
If you are hosting a family-friendly Valentine’s Day party, then get the kids involved with the prep. Have your children cut-out heart shapes from construction paper. Next, have them overlap the paper hearts to form a wreath. Glue the hearts in place, allow the wreath to dry completely, and then finish with a pretty pink or red bow. You could also get your pint-sized helpers to lend a hand in making another love-themed party decoration. Instead of cutting out heart shapes, have your kiddos trace their hands on construction paper, and then form a heart-shaped wreath from the handprints. Once the glue dries you can hang the wreath on your front door to welcome your Valentine’s Day party guests.
