Lighting For Less

saving money on electricityEvery month we get bills to pay. And every month I try to brainstorm ways to save on those bills.

Electricity is expensive as we are reminded every month as that bill rolls in. But there are some ways you can help reduce your energy costs just by working on the light bulbs throughout the house.

Try implementing some of these general tips and you might see a nice reduction reflected on your next electricity bill.

Energy Efficient Light Bulbs
Energy efficient light bulbs are just as bright as their counterparts. However, they are drastically less in cost than a regular light bulb. Save some money purchasing those energy efficient light bulbs and you will save a bundle on your next bill.

Turn Them Off
This might seem so basic to most, but turn your lights off. If you leave a room, turn them off. If you aren’t home. Turn them off. And if you can avoid having them on while watching TV, again turn them off. This can reduce your bill several dollars each month!

Use the Correct Wattage
Using the wrong wattage can not only do damage to the fixture you have the bulb in, but can also increase your energy consumption greatly. Be sure and check the standards on the packaging or the user manual of your lamps, fans, etc.

Fluorescent Light Bulbs
Although they aren’t the most beautiful things in the world, they can drastically reduce your energy bill! And they can replace almost any incandescent bulb. They are also longer lasting and more efficient than their counterparts.

Low Wattage Bulbs
Since you aren’t landing airplanes in your house, you can happily use a lower wattage bulb and live comfortably. Use the minimum wattage bulb that you can comfortably use. It will reduce energy and even set a more relaxed mood.

Can you think of other ways to save?
