GOOD NEWS FOR GIRLS
Leave it to trendy W Hotel to come up with a “Wonder Woman” program. The resort is celebrating females by glamming up its bathrooms with a woman’s touch. (Which means you can lounge in style in a bathroom designed by a woman.)
By next year guest will be able to relax in a bathroom, which incorporates “soothing creamy color schemes, decadent tubs, fabulous lighting and extra counter space for toiletries.” According to hotel execs, the tubs are being equipped with retractable nozzles for hair washing and a tray to hold bathing items. And my favorite amenity–the back of the tub is cushioned. (No more hurting your back on hard porcelain when you’re trying to catch up on your reading.)
CALLING ALL “GREENIES”
I’ve blogged about “green” travel in the past, but now it seems hotels across the country (and the world) are really taking their “save-the-planet” messages to heart. Forget about simply reusing sheets and towels, hoteliers’ efforts to go green now include much more.
Take a look:
Orchard Garden Hotel located in San Francisco has been open since fall 2006. It’s the city’s first hotel to be certified by the U.S. Green Building Council. The property’s energy-saving electric key card system automatically stops and starts power to each room when a guest leaves and re-enters.
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts in California and parts of Canada are now allowing hybrid-driving guests free parking.
Habitat Suites Hotel located in Austin, Texas uses a solar hot-water system, which cuts natural gas use by 60%. It also landscapes with drought-tolerant native plants and ladybugs instead of pesticides.
Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants uses recycled paper and environmentally friendly cleaning products.
Las Manos Bed & Breakfast located in Colorado uses solar and wind-generated electricity. The property also wind-dries its 100% cotton sheets and towels and uses furnishings made from beetle-killed pine trees.
