Love Notes: Groundhog Day

Today is Groundhog’s Day also known as Candlemas. It’s a celebration of light returning to the world and for others it’s Groundhog’s Day, the day the groundhog sticks his head out of his nest and if he sees his shadow and flees back, then we’re in for six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, then we’re in for an early spring. The groundhog isn’t always an accurate barometer of the length of our winter, but hey – it’s a fun story.

They even made a movie called Groundhog’s Day that featured Bill Murray as a man who relived the same day over and over and over again. While the chances of us repeating the exact same day over and over and over again is pretty much nonexistent, it did give me a wonderful idea for celebrating love and romance this February.

Recreate The Past

You and your spouse could celebrate Valentine’s this year by recreating a beautiful day from your courtship or a favorite romantic memory. Perhaps you can recreate the first date you took or the first day of your honeymoon or some other very fond day in your memory.

Imagine, if you will, setting the stage with similar decorations, the same music and if you’re fortunate enough, go for even the same clothes. One of my favorite memories of the first year my husband and I were together was when I was very sick and living in my little one bedroom apartment; he ordered a James Bond movie on pay per view for me and as I settled in to watch it, he arrived with take out from one of our favorite restaurants.

It’s amazing how miserable and happy I was at the same time.

Relive the Past

No, we can’t relive the same day over and over again, but we can recreate it. We can bring back a beautiful memory and relive it together – whether it’s going to visit a favorite restaurant, location or even event. Take a moment, think about the times you’ve spent together – remember a favorite moment or day in the history of your relationship. Can you recreate it? Can you bring that memory to life again? Can you imagine the fun in setting it up and then sharing it together?

What memory would you bring back to life if the two of you could?
