While this project will make a great Father’s Day gift, it can also be made for other loved ones on other special occasions.
You can find clock kits with simple instructions at most craft stores or order them online. They are far easier to put together than you might think. You will need to pick up some craft wood to use for the clock face, and you can either drill a hole in it for your child, or you can look for wood shapes that are pre-drilled especially for clock making. You can also find your own interesting objects that can be turned into a clock by drilling a hole and attaching the clock kit. To display the clock, add a saw-tooth picture hanger to the back to hang it on the wall or attach an easel for desktop use.
Look through the scrapbook section of your favorite craft store for die cut images that can be added to the clock. Maybe Dad likes golf or fishing. You can also find baseball, football, soccer, and nearly any other sport. Die cut images will add dimension to your clock.
You might want to add family pictures instead of numbers. Reduce the size of the images on your computer and print them out. A really cute way to use photos is to add pictures of a child at ages 1-12 instead of numbers 1-12 on the clock face. This style would also make the perfect gift for other occasions or other relatives. What grandparent wouldn’t love a clock like this?
Look for items that represent Dad’s other interests, such as his work or a hobby or his favorite kind of car. If dad spends a lot of time in the workshop, pick up some miniature tools and use them instead of numbers on the clock. You can also cut images from magazines and decoupage them onto the clock face. Just use your imagination and have fun with it.
