Making Base Housing Home

Military families have many challenges and endure constant changes, one of which is making base housing feel like home and another is moving frequently. You can make your house or apartment feel like home and set up house so it’s easier to move your things with little notice, all at the same time.

One of the ways to do so is to choose portable, double duty furnishings. Not only will they take up less space than traditional pieces if you end up moving into a smaller place, but furnishings that also provide storage don’t require as much effort when it comes to packing. An ottoman that includes storage can be filled with extra blankets, throws, linens, books, etc. and can be placed right into the moving truck without having to pack those items, if necessary.

The same is true of upholstered cubes that can be used as seating or small tables but also contain storage. Just load them up and bring them with you. You can use lots of other items in imaginative, portable ways as well. Get creative with what you have, and when you buy new pieces, look at them in a different way, and see if they offer dual purposes.
