Making Playoff Parties Fun for Kids

left

Watching the Packers and Giants, Saints and 49ers, Texans and Ravens or the Broncos and Patriots go head-to-head in the NFL playoffs this weekend may sound like an incredibly fun time for you, but what about the littlest players in your life?

Whether you are hosting a football-viewing party or attending one, if you want to be assured of a good time, then it would behoove you to have a plan in place to keep the kiddos entertained.

Fortunately, there are a slew of simple and affordable kid-friendly activities you can have on hand during a football-themed party, so that you can cheer on your favorite team without having to fend off whiny kids.

Homemade Football Trading Cards: Instead of forking over a bunch of money buying authentic football trading cards, have your pint-sized guests make their own while the big game is airing. Simply snap a digital photo of each child sporting a football helmet, and then print them off on your home computer. Next, have the kids glue the photos to a piece of cardstock. Once the glue dries, they can add their own stats to the back of the card. Just be sure to make enough cards so that each child can swap with other guests during the party.

Face Painting: Nothing says “U-RAH, RAH!” more than face graffiti. Purchase some cheap face paint at the Dollar Store and design your team’s logo on your young guests’ cheeks. If you want to forgo the messy paint, opt for temporary tattoos that feature your team’s colors or mascot.

Pinata: A number of discount and party stores offer sales on football-shaped pinatas this time of year. You can suspend the party staple in your living room as part of your decorations, and at the end of the game, let the kids loose to smack the candy out of it.
