March 28th is Kick Butts Day!

The Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids is gearing up for Kick Butts Day on Wednesday, March 28th. Kick Butts Day is a chance for kids to stand up, speak out, and take control of the fight against tobacco.

For eleven years, Kick Butts Day has united children of all ages in the fight against tobacco. How can you and your friends and family celebrate Kick Butts Day? Here are some ideas:

  • Start at the Kick Butts Day website. Get some information about what tobacco does to your body and learn what events are going on in your area. If you’re planning an event, you can register it there for other KBD kids to see.
  • Read up about how to help family and friends quit smoking. Tell the smokers in your life that you love them and want them to be healthy. Offer them your support in quitting.
  • Make posters or bulletin boards for school that talk about the dangers of smoking.
  • Encourage your friends and family to take part in a smoke-out day — if they aren’t going to quit smoking entirely, ask them to not smoke for just one day — Kick Butts Day!
  • Put up a graffiti wall. Hang up a long roll of paper and let your classmates write anti-tobacco graffiti that encourages a healthy, smoke-free lifestyle.
  • Organize a butt-clean-up. Gather friends and family at your favorite park to pick up cigarette butts and other litter. Be sure to wear gloves to protect your hands and bring plenty of trash bags.
  • Post a pledge list — pledge to help your friends and family quit, or if you are a smoker, sign your name to the pledge to quit smoking for good!

The Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids was launched in September 1995 to focus on lobbying and advocacy that empowers adults and children to stand strong against the dangers of tobacco.

Kick Butts Day isn’t limited to March 28th — you and your family can fight against tobacco any day with the materials and events at the Kick Butts Day website.
