Marie’s Thud Heard Round the World

Ouch!

That’s gotta hurt.

No. I’m not referring to the painful drop “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Marie Osmond took after her samba routine. I’m referring to the scores the judges flashed when the singer came to.

Osmond got 21 out of 30 possible points for her show-stopping samba. Actually, it was what occurred after her samba that stopped the show. Right before the judges started to give their verbal assessments of her dance with partner Jonathan Roberts, a visibly winded Osmond collapsed on the ballroom floor. Roberts and host Tom Bergeron leaned down to assist her before sending the live show to commercial.

According to show producers, as soon as the show went to commercial two medics and Osmond’s manager rushed to her side. Less than a minute later Osmond was helped to her feet by Roberts and her manager and taken backstage.

When I first saw what happened I thought Osmond—-a perennial jokester–was just kidding. But, after Bergeron tossed to commercial I realized there was nothing funny about her fall.

When the show returned after the break I was surprised to see that Osmond hung around for her scores. I think she was to, given how low they were. Twenty-one out of a possible 30—–clearly, Osmond and Roberts didn’t score sympathy votes from the judges.

Still, I have a feeling the lone female member of the Osmond clan gained a ton of sympathy votes from viewers last night and will remain in the competition.

In my opinion the person who should get the boot is co-host Samantha Harris. I tried to soften my remarks about her in a previous blog, but did you hear the classless comment she made to Osmond after the judges revealed their scores? The ever helpful (not) Harris pointed out to Osmond, “If you thought that would get you 10s, it didn’t work.”

What!

Keep all the contestants–Harris is the one who should be sent home. The new mom’s insensitive remark to a visibly embarrassed Osmond who just passed out in front of millions, then mustered enough energy to come back on live TV and apologize for getting winded and collapsing…

All I can say is–bring Drew back!
