Medical Transcription Schools: M-TEC, Part One

This blog is part of a series on transcription. If you haven’t read the other blogs in this series, make sure to check out the summary page for a listing of all transcription blogs.

As a part of the transcription series, I am focusing on the medical transcription schools that you can attend to receive your medical transcription certificate. M-TEC is the school I am going to focus on today and tomorrow–it is widely respected school, and I personally have several friends who attended M-TEC and loved it. These first three questions are general questions; my next blog will cover the cost question–how much is tuition, etc.

Having said all that, here’s Susan, Director of M-TEC:

When was M-TEC founded? M-TEC was founded in 1995. The Directors have been involved in various aspects of the medical transcription industry, including practicing transcriptionists and service owners, since 1971.

What is the philosophy behind the school? M-TEC’s philosophy is based around quality. We strive to train qualified healthcare documentation specialist who are ready to enter into today’s high-paced and technological environment. We believe in strong core competency training as well as technology training to prepare our graduates for traditional medical transcription as well as editing and other aspects of today’s workforce. You can find more on the school at our website under the “Prospective Student” pull-down.

What do you think is M-TEC’s biggest strength is as a school? We offer a competency-based educational curriculum with a strong support system for our students, along with technology training that is unsurpassed by others. We use college-level textbooks and workbooks and supply our students with an industry-recognized reference library. Our transcription tests are graded by an instructor who gives extensive feedback to help students succeed. We are the first school approved by ACCP and are also approved by State Of Ohio Board of Career Colleges and Schools, which mandates that we have a fair refund policy in place for our students as well as a surety bond to assure students that their investment is secure, should we have to close our doors at any time. We have an excellent placement rate and our graduates are sought after by many medical transcription companies, large and small.
