“Melrose” Hookup?

Fans of Fox’s (now defunct) primetime soap “Melrose Place” may be wondering if art is imitating life in this latest Hollywood hookup. Several media sources are reporting that ex “Melrose” hotties Heather Locklear and Jack Wagner are a couple.

According to PEOPLE magazine, the two have been spotted together multiple times – holding hands during intimate meals. That said, rumors that the two are more than “just friends” is “outrageous,” according to a friend of Locklear who went on to say that the couple isn’t starting a Hollywood romance.

“[They] have been friends since Melrose Place,” a friend of Wagner told PEOPLE. “There’s definitely no change in their relationship. They [just] went out with a bunch of her friends.”

For those of you who never watched the popular nighttime soap, Locklear and Wagner’s characters ended up marrying each other. As for a real life wedding, I’m sure that’s a bit premature (to say the least). But, who can blame a bunch of die-hard fans from wanting the two to take their “just friends” relationship to the next level?

After all, in Locklear and Wagner we have “old friends” with a lot in common. Both are single parents (Locklear is in the middle of a divorce from Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora), and Wagner’s divorce from his wife Kristina was finalized last year. Both have children—-Locklear has a 9-year-old daughter Ava and Wagner has two sons, Peter, 16, and Harrison, 12.

So what of the actress’s much publicized alleged romance with actor David Spade? Locklear’s pal told a reporter, “David saw her through some really sad times, but they were never more than friends.” (Judging by the many, many photos of the two kissing, hugging, and hand-holding—-that’s some kind of “friendship.”)

Which brings us back to Wagner (who currently plays a sea captain on CBS’s “The Bold and the Beautiful”). Those who know Locklear insist to PEOPLE that Heather is an affectionate person.

“She holds her friends’ hands all the time,” says a pal. “Men, women – it doesn’t mean anything.”

Heck, she was photographed with her hands and lips entwined with Spade many times when they were “just friends…” (Silly us common folk who normally reserve that kind of behavior for people we are “more than just friends” with.)

Who knows what will happen. I, for one, hope the hookup between Locklear and Wagner heats up. I think he’s hot and Locklear deserves someone to make her happy after enduring Sambora’s snaky moves with Denise Richards.

It’s a sentiment that seems to be echoed by Locklear’s friend who told PEOPLE Wagner is “super funny, charming, considerate and a little irreverent. I don’t think anyone would be sad if [something more] happened.”
