Money Shots

When I heard Cleveland Cavaliers’ superstar LeBron James would be appearing on the April cover of Vogue I couldn’t believe it. Then I heard supermodel Gisele Bundchen was gracing the cover with him and it made more sense.

Nothing against the All-Star forward… he’s got a ripped body, not to mention his own Nike clothing line, but in the fashion magazine’s 116-year history only two men-—actors Richard Gere and George Clooney–have graced the cover of the legendary publication.

And it’s not as though LeBron and Bundchen are dressed in their red carpet best (well, she’s wearing a silky, strapless number). The pro athlete is wearing a tank top, shorts and sneakers and appears on the cover dribbling a basketball with one hand and grabbing Bundchen’s waist with the other. (Take that Tom Brady.)

So what’s the reason behind the historic pairing?

Vogue editors say they wanted to feature athletes and models in its annual issue devoted to size and shape. According to editors, 6-foot-9 James and 5-foot-11 Bundchen were a natural pairing. (Hear that Brady?)

Speaking of pairing one lucky eBay bidder just bought himself a date of a lifetime when he dropped more than $40,000 to be paired up on the red carpet with actress Scarlett Johansson.

The 23-year-old movie star auctioned off a chance to be her guest at the July premiere of her new film, He’s Just Not That Into You, to benefit her charity of choice Oxfam America. Bidding started at less than $1, but over 10 days it skyrocketed to more than 40 grand. (The official winning bid came in at $40,100.)

The winner, who was willing to drop tens of thousands to spend a few hours with the woman who is currently dating actor Ryan Reynolds, is reportedly from the U.K. According to event organizers, the winner and a guest will travel to the star-studded event in a chauffeur-driven limousine and join the actress on the red carpet. After the screening the winner will also receive a personal handwritten note from Johansson.
