More about Covenant Marriages

In one of my last articles I began discussing the three types of marriages that were describing in some of my recent reading. The first type that I talked about was the marriage of convenience where the partners seemed to share nothing, have little bonding, and have separate lives. The second marriage type was a marriage of codependency in which the partners share everything and have no life outside of the marriage. In this marriage one partner is often seen submissive to the other. The final type of marriage that will be discussed in this article is the covenant marriage.

Covenant marriage can be a sacred bond between the partners and it can also in some states be a type of legal and licensed marriage.

A covenant marriage is the highest form of spiritual marriage and bondage possible. In this marriage the partners give up some of their freedoms and independency to share their life together. However their goal is to grow together as individuals and not to completely lose their own identity. They respect the individual and do not try to conform or change one another.

The two people in this type of marriage have a balance in their life. They support each in other as individuals. They have a strong emotional and spiritual bond. They commit to one another emotionally, spiritually, sexually, and mentally. They enjoy one another and have one of the happiest and most satisfying marriages possible.

The desire of most people is to have the kind of bond and love with a spouse that can be seen in a covenant marriage. However this type of marriage is often hard to come by. Many couples settle for less and live their lives unhappily. With the right mate and some genuine effort and feelings a healthy happy marriage can be found.
