I admit that if I’m not careful, I can spend a fortune on kid’s craft kits, especially around the holidays. Not only are they fun for my own kids, but they are easy to take to group events, such as the class Christmas party or church group. Fortunately, I’ve learned that I can save money by preparing my own Christmas craft kits for the kids.
Yesterday, I shared an idea for creating a craft kit for making an angel ornament. It was one of the biggest hits at our Christmas festival this past weekend. Variety, though is important, so it is nice to have several different Christmas craft kits prepared. You can package each kit individually, or just have the supplies laid out on a table for the kids.
Wreath Ornament
Supplies to prepare the kits:
- Small paper plates
- Green tissue paper squares (buy them precut for time or cut them yourself out of leftover gift wrap to save even more)
- Red construction paper
- Ribbon
- Glitter, sequins, stickers or other things to use for decoration
- Paper or plastic bags if you want to package the kits individually.
Additional supplies to have on hand for assembly day:
- Glue (small paper cups filled with glue and paintbrushes to spread it make it easy for the kids)
Preparation directions:
- Using a template, cut a circle out of the middle of the paper plate to make a wreath shape.
- Using a template, cut construction paper into the shape bows.
- Using a hole punch or scissors, cut a hole at the top of each wreath.
- Cut the ribbon into short lengths for hanging the wreath.
Directions to make the wreaths:
- Thread a length of ribbon through the hole in the wreath and tie the ends to form a hanging loop.
- Apply glue to the wreath.
- Crumple up the tissue paper and add it to the wreath until it is well covered all of the way around.
- Glue the bow to the bottom of the wreath.
- Add decorations to your wreath.
